A federal election has been called for September 20th, 2021. Hikma is pleased to advise of the following details of our election strategy – which adopts a three-pronged approach: Inform our Ummah about key issues; Involve our Ummah in learning about the parties, candidates and their positions; Empower our Ummah to make the best possible voting decision on Election Day. It is critical that the Muslim vote gets out and is counted on Election Day. Below are some of the tools we will be using. Please stay tuned for more details and check out hikma.ca or the Hikma London facebook page for updates.

  1. Meet the Candidates Meetings

Hikma is working with community partners to host in person candidate meetings that are in accordance with pandemic protocols. The dates/times/locations of these meetings will be announced shortly. These meetings will give you a chance to compare the candidates in your riding.

  1. Zoom Calls with the Parties

In addition to the all-candidates meetings, we will be holding separate zoom calls with the candidates from each party (eg. one hour session with the Liberal candidates, then another session for the NDP, etc….). This will allow us to do a bit of a deeper dive with each party and the candidates that are running for that party in London.

  1. Surveys/Report Card

We are in the process of distributing surveys to the candidates to see where they stand on key issues related to Muslims. We will collate those responses and issue a “Report Card” to the community outlining the responses.

  1. Fundraising

Alhum D’Allah, we have reached a stage where our community can (and should) raise money for multiple candidates in multiple parties. If you have experience in doing fundraising for any political party and want to be a part of our coordinated fundraising strategy for all parties, please let us know (communications@hikma.ca).

We cannot stress enough how important it is for Muslims to vote in this election. We have the population in London to make an impact and affect positive change in our community.
